The best age to introduce your child to an orthodontist is 6-7. If your child’s teeth are irregular, tilted forward (or, conversely, leaned back) when the teeth close, there is a jaw shift to the side, there are significant gaps between the teeth or they are located very closely, there are “extra” teeth in the oral cavity or milk teeth are prematurely lost, a visit to the orthodontist is mandatory. After all, the sooner the bite correction begins, the more likely it is that the treatment will be as effective as possible.
The age from 6 to 12 years is considered ideal for orthodontic treatments, because this period is marked by tooth transition period, when the milk teeth are replaced by adult ones, and it is at this time that you can clearly see all the occlusion disorders in the child. Replacement of the last milk teeth occurs at 10-12 years. During this period, the growth of the jaws slows down and there may not be enough space for permanent teeth. If throughout this period the defects caused by delayed jaw growth go unnoticed, then at 13-14 years old the teeth will begin to overlap and become crooked. For school-age children, trainers, removable devices (plates), and braces can be used.
